The Xebec                                                                                                                  The xebec was besides the galley the most known ship type of the Mediterranean See. The xebec has been early recognized by the North African corsairs as a speedy sailing ship. These ships had, according to E. Pâris, the length of 25 up to 35 meters and were armed with 16 up to 24 canons. The crew cosisted of about 300 - 450 men (2/3 of them were soldiers).Through the restricted jam-area, only short trips were possible with this ship.
